فَمن تَرَكَت في الأَرضِ لِلنوحِ بَعدَها
You have passed away, and henceforth she sleeps alone.
She passed away, and after this day will slumber alone.
So whom has she left on earth to mourn after her?
Whom did she leave on this earth to mourn her when gone?

حَبيباً سَقَتهُ قَبلَ ذلِكَ وُدَّها
A mother consumed by tears for her, or
A child who will shed tears in grief for its mother?
A lover whom she had earlier given her affection to drink?
Or a lover whose passion she nurtured before moving on?

It is as though I see my Lord, when He finished fashioning her:
It's as if I see my Lord when her form He completed,
Love possessed Him, so He kissed her cheek.
Love overcame Him, her cheek He then kissed.

أَثارَ بِهِ نارَ الهَوى فَاِستَرَدَّها
And her love-stricken beauty astonished Him;
Her beauty enraptured, perfection completed,
It kindled in Him the fire of passion, so He took her back.
It stirred in Him the fires of love, He couldn't resist.
