Extinguish your light and darken as I am dark.
Extinguish your light and darken like my darkness
And leave me in my nightmares and my dreams.
And leave me to my nightmares and my dreams

For many a bright night, O night, awakens me
To chastity, so I forget the burden of my sins.
To chastity, so I forget the burden of my sins

I feel in my body a longing that torments me,
I feel in my body a yearning that tortures me
For in my blood is a surge, like wine in my cup.
So in my blood there is a chapter like wine in my cup

No fire remains in my cupped hand for anything but passion
No fires remain in my grasp except for passion
That destroys my body, as it has destroyed bodies.
That leads my body as it led other bodies

My pure love, like my old faith, has passed away—
My pure love like my ancient faith is gone
A delusion I raved about, one of my delusions.
And a delusion I raved about from some of my imaginations

Do you see how when the wind passes over a branch
The raging wind, how its flowers wither?
Its flowers wither?

So too the heart, when it is clothed
Thus is the heart when sins clothe it
By sins, hardens, and its feeling may dry up.
It hardens and its feelings may dry up

O sorrow of the night, how much a dream implies
Dead, in the heart of a harlot, a sister of sorrows,
Of a dead heart, wanton, sister of pains

Or the heart of a widow, time has violated
Her chastity, so she killed her thirsting heart.
Her chastity, so it killed her heart, wronged

Whatever the reason for her surrender, passion
In her soul, or was it the rescue of orphans—
In the soul or saving orphans

Of her bloody shame is demolished

And the red passion completes its cycle
So a womb is effaced from among wombs.
So a womb disappears from among wombs

Is from your demolishing and ruined lineage—so respect me

You were created to practice death—so come near me
To me, for I have plied death since long ago.
For I have practiced death from the beginning

I have carried its sickle in debauchery, avenging
On women; so bring it, that you may take revenge.
Women—so bring it to avenge me

Indeed, I have tired of dreams in a body
That tired of chastity amid many kinds of pain.
Filled with the colors of pain
