And I inhaled a fragrant incense from your tresses,
When your hands moved through your sidelocks,
As your palms caressed your chest,
When your palms wandered through your locks,
وَرَأَيْتُand I saw رَأْسَكِyour head بِالْأَقَاحِwith daisies مُتَوَّجًاcrowned

And bouquets of jasmine upon your bosom,
وَسَمِعْتُand I heard حَوْلَكِaround you هَمْسَwhispering نَسْمَاتِbreezes الصَّبَاthe east wind

And heard around you the whisper of the east wind's breezes,
And heard the whispers of the morning breeze,
And I heard the whisper of the gentle breeze around you,
In the morning, stirring your sides,
Rustling by your shoulders at dawn,
At dawn, swaying your shoulders softly,
أَيْقَنْتُI became certain أَنَّكِthat you جَنَّةٌa garden خَلَّابَةٌenchanting
فَحَنَنْتُso I yearned مِنْfrom بَعْدِafter الْمَشِيبِgray hair إِلَيْكِfor you
I knew for certain you were an enchanting garden,
I knew you were an alluring garden,
I became certain that you are a captivating paradise,
So I yearned for you after my hair had turned gray.
And I inclined to you in my old age,
So I yearned for you, even after my hair turned gray,
وَلِذَاكَand for that reason قَدْindeed صَيَّرْتُI made قَلْبِيmy heart نَحْلَةًa bee
يَاO جَنَّتِيmy garden حَتَّىso that يَحُومَit may hover عَلَيْكِover you
And for that reason I have made my heart a bee,
Thus I made my heart into a bee,
And for that, I have transformed my heart into a bee,
O my garden, so that it may hover over you.
O my garden, hovering over you,
O my paradise, that it might hover over you,
رُوحِيmy soul فِدَاؤُكِa ransom for you إِنَّهَاindeed it لَوْif لَمْnot تَكُنْit were

My soul is your ransom; for if it were not
My soul is your ransom, if it were not
My soul is your ransom; for were it not
In your palms, it would fall at your feet.
In your care, it would fall at your feet.
Held in your palms, it would have fallen at your feet.
