جَلَستُI sat أُناجيI commune with روحَthe spirit of أَحمَدَAhmad فيin الدُجىthe darkness of night
وَلِلهَمِّand grief has حَوليaround me كَالظَلامِlike darkness سُدولُcurtains
I sat communing with Ahmad's spirit in the dark of night,
I sat communing with the spirit of Ahmad in the deep night,
And grief's curtains hung about me like darkness.
While worry draped its veils around me like the dark.
أُفَكِّرُI ponder فيon الدُنياthe world وَأَبحَثُand I search فيamong الوَرىhumankind
وَعَينِيَand my gaze ماthe space بَينَbetween النُجومِthe stars تَجولُroams
I pondered the world and searched among humankind,
I contemplate the world and search through mankind,
And my gaze wandered in the space between the stars,
While my eye wanders amidst the stars.
طَويلاًfor a long while إِلىuntil أَنthat نالَtook its toll مِنon خاطِريmy mind الوَنىweariness
وَرانَand settled عَلىover طَرفيmy gaze الكَليلِweary ذُبولُlanguor
For a long while, until weariness took its toll on my mind,
Long I stayed, until weariness overtook my thoughts,
And languor settled over my weary gaze.
And a withering languor settled on my tired sight.
فَأَطرَقتُso I lowered my head أَمشيI walk فيthrough سُطورِthe lines of كِتابِهِhis book
بِطَرفيwith my gaze فَأَلفَيتُand then I found السُطورَthe lines تَقولُsaying
So I lowered my head, walking through the lines of his book
So I lowered my head to walk the lines of his book
With my gaze, and found the lines saying:
With my glance, and I found the verses saying:
سِوىexcept وَجَعِthe pain of الحُسّادِthe envious دَوِheal فَإِنَّهُfor it
إِذاwhen حَلَّsettles فيin قَلبٍa heart فَلَيسَthen it does not يَحولُdepart
Heal every pain except that of the envious, for it
"Treat every ailment except the pain of the envious, for truly,
Never departs once it settles in a heart.
If it lodges in a heart, it will never shift.
فَلاso do not تَطمَعنَever expect مِنfrom حاسِدٍan envious person فيfor مَوَدَّةٍaffection
وَإِنeven if كُنتَyou are تُبديهاshowing it لَهُto him وَتُنيلُand bestow favors
So never expect affection from an envious person,
So do not hope for affection from an envious soul,
Even if you show it to him and bestow favors.
Even if you show him love and grant him favors."
