The wind of dew buffeted the torch, and it went out.

O you who sleep apart from us, while eyes keep vigil,

After your departure, we are captives to sorrows and gloom.

Our souls complain of the injustice of death and fate

To the sky, to the night, to the clear dawn, to the hills,

To the withered daisies, fading like hopes,

To the wailing streams, weeping like beautiful women.

Time stole their precious adornments in seconds,

And the smiles of bygone days and youth.

O spring of loyalty and generosity in a body!

Who before you saw a world of virtues in a shroud?

You freed your soul from the prison of pain and sorrow,

And the brook's water went joyfully to the sea.

O you of noble origin, your conduct and qualities have adorned you.

You lived for people, as though all were your kin and age-mates.

All you held and owned was theirs, and so was your life.

You were a star in a world shrouded in mist.

The wind of death buffeted the torch, and it went out.

And behold, all the palaces of hope were like dust.

And behold, all the palaces of hope were like dust.
