إِن كانَ ذَنبي دِفاعي عَن حُقوقِكُم

إِن كانَ ذَنبي دِفاعي عَن حُقوقِكُم

فَلَستُ أَدري وَرَبّي كَيفَ أَعتَذِرُ

فَلَستُ أَدري وَرَبّي كَيفَ أَعتَذِرُ

If my sin is defending your rights,

If my sin was my defense of your rights,

Then, by my Lord, I do not know how to apologize.

Then I know not, by my Lord, how to apologize.

أُعيذُكُم أَن يَقولَ الناسُ قَد مَدَحوا

أُعيذُكُم أَن يَقولَ الناسُ قَد مَدَحوا

فَما أَثابوا عَلى قَول وَلا شَكَروا

فَما أَثابوا عَلى قَول وَلا شَكَروا

I seek protection for you lest people say: 'They were praised,

I seek to shield you lest people say: "They offered praise,

Yet gave no reward for words, nor offered thanks.'

But they gave no reward for the speech, nor offered thanks."
