1. The beloved glanced at me from the corner of his eye,
So how can I be cured, being lovesick and frail?

2. He came near and calmed the fire in my heart, his cheek,
Have you ever heard of a fire being extinguished by another fire?

3. The tears wanted to flow as usual,
Or flow as was their habit, so I told them: stop!

4. Stop, for the beloved has come when it was enough,
And his longing lover has been satisfied.

5. A beauty whose face mocks the full moon,
Nay, her spittle scorns the planet Venus!

6. I am not content to compare her to the sun,
Nor the moon, no, I am not satisfied with the brightest star!

7. Beauty emerges from her without affectation,
And wit shines through her without ostentation.

8. Her wit complements the beauty of her face,
Showing you a miracle, a sign set in decoration.

9. I turn away from her, lest I have my fill,
Do you think I desire to quench my thirst?

10. Neither has my love brought peace, nor has my patience remained,
Nor has my craving diminished, despite attaining union.

11. O you who are unjust, you have reigned so be generous,
O you who disdain, you have become wealthy so show kindness,

12. By the right of your beauty, O lovely one, be kind,
And by the turn of your neck, O delicate one, turn it gently.

13. You are the beloved, have you turned gently or not?
And I am the lover, have you drawn me near or pushed me away?

14. Then you say “who is this?” though you have shed my blood unjustly,
And you ask about my heart while it is in your hand!

15. Nothing is more wondrous than her glowing cheek being cooled
By water - except her beauty and chastity!

16. What have I encountered from rejection, because I
Meet his harshness with a gentle, well-mannered heart?

17. My heart swears it will be soothed but then it is not soothed,
And it swears that it has not sworn!

18. I swear it will be soothed, and that its soothing
Is a joy, because the bearer of good news has come with Joseph!

19. The bearer of good news has come that Joseph is now healed,
The illness of the age is cured, for Joseph has been restored to health!

20. The bearer of good news has come with a Joseph walking
In the bearer’s footsteps, or a Joseph following him!

21. The good tidings of Joseph has remained a tradition
In time, never failing nor falling short!

22. The comforter was like the shirt, do you not see
Our sights have been returned to us by the comforter?

23. It was a great matter, if it were not
An explicit proposal, softened by gentleness.

24. Oh woe to the invalids! How they set their sights
And aimed for that most noble place!

25. Do you think there is greed in the kingdom of the King of kings?
Your assumptions have failed so hide or disappear!

26. You erred while it is established, and repentance is accepted
For a slip of an ignorant one who did not know.

27. No thinness could harm the noble body, I and that
Is an attribute of the gentle and refined.

28. Give glad tidings of his health regained, then say:
Your breakfast is assured, it will not be taken away.

29. And likewise say to the full moon: “O moon of the night,
Do not appear with a sullen face.”

30. And spread the good news of his recovery, then see
How it spreads through the cross and the scripture of good tidings.

31. You are too noble for the turns of fate,
For it has no power over you, in enemies or friends.

32. And God has chosen you as the champion of His faith,
So you supported the religion of the Chosen One, and the Chosen One.

33. You protected the sanctity of religion from being erased,
And prevented the light of sacred law from being extinguished.

34. You made every great unbeliever into a convert,
Bowing to the smallest Muslim initiating his faith.

35. You unsheathed a sharpened sword to the transgressor,
And poured an unrestricted sword on the aggressor.

36. And Allah is too generous to abandon a nation
That trusted in your justice, after enduring so much fear.

37. And I had made a vow of pilgrimage upon your recovery,
And you have recovered, so I must fulfil it.

38. Make my pilgrimage easy, for it is from you my conveyance
To Mina, and your generosity is my stop at the Plain.

39. And if it is made possible for me to ride in your company,
Then, oh my pride in reward multiplied!

40. I call upon this and ask persistently,
And Allah does not refuse the call of one who persists.
