1. No, by Him towards Whose House the pilgrims direct themselves,
Between a shifting camp and a nearby fixed abode,
١. لا وَالَّذي قَصَدَ الحَجيجُ لَبَيتِهِ
ما بَينَ ناءٍ نازِحٍ وَقَريبِ
2. And the Stone and the Much-Kissed Corner where meet
Lips and a Veiled Sanctum,
٢. وَالحِجرِ وَالحَجَرِ المُقَبَّلِ تَلتَقي
فيهِ الشِفاهُ وَرُكنِهِ المَحجوبِ
3. No indeed, the place where you dwell
Is not in my heart after that, O beloved!
٣. لا كانَ مَوضِعُكَ الَّذي مُلِّكتَهُ
بَينَ الأَضالِعِ بَعدَ ذا لَحَبيبِ
4. Nay, I found delight in you in the valley
Other than from food and drink,
٤. إِنّي وَجَدتُ لَذاذَةً لَكَ في الحَشا
لَيسَت لِمَأكولٍ وَلا مَشروبِ
5. I being the complainant when the distance grows great
Between us and the breathing space of the distressed one.
٥. لي أَنَّهُ الشاكي إِذا بَعُدَ المَدى
ما بَينَنا وَتَنَفُّسُ المَكروبِ
