We were patient with the injustice and calamities of enemies.

15. I'm not happy that I stand up to harm,
And that I'm one of the successors in the Abode of Humiliation.

16. So either shelter me, O Mala, or be my companion in Bani Rabee'ah,
And the family of 'Aylan the tall, large in number.

17. When the white-faced, magnificent camels set out,
Appear to you cheerful, basil-scented cheeks.

18. There if you don heavy robes, you are clothed with them
The wings of a secure, shaded old tent.

19. Where if the bondsman gives out the ropes,
You take them, unlike the weak and frail.

20. When you ascend the stars and night is beneath them,
You are safe from enemies unless you turn in fear.

21. You are spared, so how many bites were on your fingers
And ardent passions from burning hearts!

22. Are you threatening me with separation, O Bajailah?
Indeed he who you exposed to others has been humiliated.

23. When they get angry about something, their threat is
The perishing of aspirations and trembling of pillows.

24. For them are springs of evil which they sample
In ways - from the disobedience of a transgressor and a pauper.

25. Ignoramuses, heedless ones - if they interfere
With their calculations, you disown them as uncultured.

And how many families, other than you, with might -

27. We crawled to their peg by submitting.
We turned to them with tall camels, unsheathing

28. Tongues like the tails of fleeing beasts.
And we returned with red camels whose chests disgorged

29. The blood of enemies - dripping from cutting noses.
And we, whenever someone called for a raid,

30. Would unsheathe spears for it, unsheathing strongly.
I'm amazed by one of two colors who mixed with my nature -

31. So I uncovered from him the disgraces of disclosures.
I withheld my hand from him, and it was an error

32. In dealing with a rejected falsifier.
He bargains the eye of fire, fearing the abodes,

33. When the fire of a people is kindled at the borders.
And if he feels at ease with guests, he muzzles his dog

34. And lowers the necks of the tall riding camels.
I discarded you, discarding teeth after they fell out,

35. Though I am the comrade of an opposing companion.
When a man is bothered by something in his eye,

36. He is not to blame if he flicks it away with his eyelids.
You are not from my ancestors, so some affection

37. Would return from the foolish womb.
I swear by Him whom the seekers jostled, mentioning His name,

38. Jostling riding beasts from Minā and the standing places.
Barren like the strings of lutes from being folded,

39. Upon the likes of the palms of a mean gift-giver.
Regret has folded from their insides after

40. Their emblems ended, folding the fine subtleties.
You see every effort, when declined by fate,

41. Collapsing upon the saddlebags, collapsing weakly.
By the Lord of gifts that give joy - we turn our backs on them quickly,

42. And the Lord of girls dancing coquettishly.
By the Ancient House neither clippers nor shorteners remain,

43. Nor ones rubbing the corner of the Ancient House in circumambulation.
Nor ones heading to the flags of an army and repelling,

44. Nor walkers by the sides of ruins and watchers.
Your aloofness from me is a greater disgrace

45. Than vulgarity with watchers at the standing-places.
So do not stir up evil from its slumber,

46. Lest it overtake you, overtaking of years going by.
Rhymes that drip poison as if they are

47. The fangs of serpents slithering in the sands.
So how much bitterness from you is held against us

48. When a survivor returns to it after plucking.
And beware carrying my she-camels

49. Upon the backs of roaring, screaming riding beasts.
Your caravan will shrink, and every hour

50. A fleeting opportunity will be made available to it from you.
Leave the old, ripened wine - let its company flow

51. To attain noble goals, while you sit declining.
That was a lasting abode which you did not become its wolves,

52. Yes, perhaps you took all the best portions for yourselves!
Cover up and do not expose your defects to me,

53. For every disgrace except that it has a perpetrator.
And if the days are extended between me and you,
