1. The hearts that blame and excuse are more spacious,
And the glance of estrangement is more pliant than affection.

2. God has given you a heart filled with loyalty,
So there is no room in it for excuses.

3. I have a purpose that, if I pursue it,
Will almost be severed by worries in this life.

4. Toward you - my soul does not incline to betrayal
When your affection provides me with drink.

5. But I am in a company whose friendship,
When tested by adversities, is pretense.

6. When their words race into my hearing,
My thoughts of excuse come while still bleary.

7. May God make this age a sword against desires
That severs my aspirations though they continue.

8. When I sense its flashing resolve, it returns me
Shy of people’s sights and troubles being heard.

9. I accompanied men striving for the heights
So the evils of time hurried me and impelled.

10. Do I not have, from the share of noble deeds,
That I quickly see the caller to heights when heard?

11. My arrows of events turn back wayward,
And if the bow of resolve were flexible, it would snap.

12. I guide my understanding while talks hurry on,
And I control my patience while factors flare up.
