1. Many a day with polished face you'd think
Was set with pearls upon the cheeks,
١. وَرُبَّ يَومٍ صَقيلِ الوَجهِ تَحسَبُهُ
مُرَصَّعاً بِجِباهِ الخُرَّدِ العينِ
2. Came to you leading a feast in its satchels,
Provisions of joy over the singing birds.
٢. أَتاكَ يَقتادُ عيداً في حَقائِبِهِ
زادَ السُرورِ عَلى الطَيرِ المَيامينِ
3. So don the white robes that were bleached,
And come out from fasting in his raiment of youth.
٣. فَاِلبَس جَلابيبَهُ البيضَ الَّتي شَرُفَت
وَاِخرُج عَنِ الصَومِ مِن أَثوابِهِ الجَونِ
4. To you he turns while the bosom follows,
Joined by yearning's sunset to sunset of longing.
٤. إِلَيكَ يَستَنُّ وَالأَحشاءُ يَتبَعُها
عَن غَربِ فِكرٍ بِغَربِ الشَوقِ مَقرونِ
5. They came to congratulate you on the love
Our hearts attached, not just Palm Sunday's day.
٥. جاءَت تُهَنّيكَ بِالوُدِّ الَّذي عَلِقَت
مِنّا الضَمائِرُ لا يَومِ الشَعانينِ
