1. Oh alive, the Lord of the Heights from the strange foreigners,
Who sweated me between the heights and the aims.

2. And I have no hopes without it, that is struck
And upheavals of purpose and calamities.

3. I got bored of time whose circumstances tossed me,
The clothes of snakes or the creeping of scorpions.

4. The position of the young man is inability to what oppresses him,
And the humiliation of the brave heart is one of the wonders.

5. I will ride it [time], slowly, either for praising,
Who counts my deeds, or for a mourner.

6. When a man's determination decreases, his success decreases,
And oppression moves away from him while he has firm claws.

7. Its ways to what it desires were narrowed,
And it attained little with much misfortune.

8. And none reached the distant goal except a man,
Who comes and goes vulnerable to disasters.

9. And nothing draws humiliation like a panicky soul,
Nor disables determination like fear of consequences.

10. Oh, if only I knew! Will worries make peace with me,
And hide my concerns from the beating of misfortunes?

11. To how long I block my eye lest it gets provoked,
And the passage of wishes and the lying guesses?

12. I was envied that I was content - so how about me
If my determination sought the realm of the stars?

13. The human being always has an envier of blessing,
Little of which appears while most of it is absent.

14. And days left me composure and intelligence,
And settled my thin body with strange affairs.

15. My flesh was distributed in the mouths of many wolves,
And the mark of experiences appeared on my sides.

16. In a land I sold my youth and adolescence,
And my heart carried worries from all sides.

17. And falsehoods from enemies towards me, as if
My person meets them in battle.

18. I forget their hatred while not heedless,
And I request their benevolence while not desiring.

19. I endure their great harm,
And I sit among them, biting and pulled.

20. Oh, how much glory I scratched its armor,
And it was full of defects over the days.

21. And a secret I concealed from people until I concealed it
In my ribs and did not make my wiles aware of it.

22. And an envied beautiful woman in the light of her face,
I deserted her except for a far glimpse.

23. And a maiden whose neck I tied to embrace,
So I became aloof from her after passion confused me.

24. A human's chastity is nothing but ignorance,
If he does not combat the disease of passion fighting.

25. And determination whose edges are like spearheads in battle,
I stabbed with it the deceit of the conniving enemy.

26. And oppression which passed as wounds pass I escaped it,
To the highest outlook, the ascent of riders.

27. And a cunning plot whose expert I was not pursuing,
No shame touches me but what I shook off from my tails.

28. With an ambition the hands of death, its whips
Drive hopes with it the march of misfortunes.

29. To one established in glory protecting his chastity,
And who stabs debauchery with spears and desires.

30. Resident of good mention in every country,
And strange events were accustomed to answering his calls.

A young man accompanied by gentleness in his youth

32. With abundant generosity and flowing blood.

33. For the most glorious branch in the noble of Hashim
And the best stick from Luwayy son of Ghalib.

34. Theirs are the inherited glory and its secret,
And the pure virtues are in them and merits.

Their chests are where the sheaths of swords sleep,

36. And they rise wielding piercing spears.
They excelled over every glory and captured it

37. With its edges from the clasps of bracelets.
And speeches whose briskness threw its anklets,

38. Of extended horizons, stunning sides.
And it shook the red [spear] whose sparks flowed

39. To the sides of the atmosphere like kites swooping.
You dressed it with resolve until you armored it,

40. As layered clouds produce rain.
And enemies knew that under you

41. You won, and fate was not victorious.
And you exposed Baghdad whose echo remains

42. To this day flowing in the morning and wadis.
And were it not for you its walls would be skulls

43. And a trench in it with gushing blood.
And how many a day you left antelopes bewildered,

44. Their dwellings busy with taxes!
Its forerunners between rising and effortful,

45. And its peers between falling and leaping.
And you led stratagems to it, causing spears

46. And causing the wailing of ululation and captives.
Burdened with the loads of sublime as if

47. It walks the ground walk of swaying slave girls.
Repeating the biting of arrows you suck them

48. Drizzle of saplings with accurate arrows.
And preparation bared its flanks,

49. And dived as the wolves of caves dive.
So you humbled against it every smooth delicate [sword]

50. And undid against it each white-bladed [sword].
And you let loose against it the army after a swoop

51. That joins the necks of spears and boats.
And it shook the brain of the antelope in its orbit

52. Squeezing the expanse of the open ground of the long-necked.
You marched against it until its expanse narrowed

53. Away from dawn, rising over the hidden mountains.
And every day you are riding with determination,

54. Alone pursuing grave affairs that do not humiliate their rider.
And it is no wonder if some waste shook

55. When its pillars broke down with unscalable difficulties.
You fixed the edges of the Caliphate after

56. Oppression came near to the point of touching it.
And you have not ceased throwing every resistant heart

57. That resists it, even the hearts of relatives!
Happy new feast to you, for it

58. Sends you good fortune with breaking spears.
And your honor remains unshakeable in its essence,

59. And all glories between gone and coming.
And no holiday has ever been propitious without a dawn

60. That shines from the penetrating light of glory.
And how can one living a lifetime of deprivation

61. Be happy with the feast, prisoner of misfortune?
When a man is not clothed with chastity by white hair,

62. For white hair is but an adornment for evils.
I am the eminent poet in every onlooker’s eye

63. When the strange parts of my poems ring to listeners.
I did not refrain my poetry from you out of asceticism, but

64. It is pearls that do not pass but on searching camels.
