1. O you who trust in fate, hasten its turns
And know that seekers are frail furniture

2. Take from your heritage what you can, for
Your partners are only days and heirs

3. None fulfilled the right of wealth except a group
Who found time ravaging so they ravaged

4. The hand of wealth berates the rich man's fault
While poverty shields the youth's defect

5. A man's wealth is what his desires reached
Or what averted predicaments from him

6. What was extra beyond his livelihood
Let him know it is an inheritance

7. I have no need for the world's delusion
So the magician of its plot may perish

8. I divorced it a thousandfold to end its illness
And the divorce of one determined is threefold

9. Its residences are hazardous and its pacts
Broken, its ropes untwisted

10. The mother of afflictions still frightens us
With its male and female misfortunes

11. I wonder at men who held fast
To the world's ropes while they are frail

12. They hoarded treasures and neglected their desires
So the earth is sated while the stomachs famished

13. Do they not know that piety
Is our provision and home is the graves?
