1. How long will you be harsh and ignore my reproach
While you remain deaf to any response?

2. Beware lest I defeat you in a contest
For I cannot restrain my wrath

3. And if you persist in hurting me
You open for me every way to prevail.

4. I am forbearing, but then my pride takes over
And how long can dignity abide insult?

5. When you turn from me, defeated and contrite
Fear my blade and fangs in vengeance.

6. For allies’ zeal can exceed all bounds
And blemish even the closest kinship.

7. We are provoked to drink when we are debased-
How then when debased by the drink itself?

8. So look not at me with eyes of disdain
For many a ragged one conceals in his cloak

9. Who but I will make a stand and face you
When I dig in my heels and strap on my belt?

10. How can I stay patient when worries boil up
To a matter that has no remedy but my own hands?

11. I will loose at you an arrow shot far
And you will rise to find my trail gone cold.

12. When pity stirs you, you will get from it
Just some finger clicking or door tapping.

13. You will hear of me when I make my affair public
And know your ways are far from my own.

14. Strange tidings of me from my lands
Will mystify you with marvel and wonder.

15. You will get inklings of my people’s secrets
That make you crane your necks in anticipation.

16. And you will wake perplexed and at a loss for words-
Can this whiner have slipped his leash?

17. Just imagine when you see the horses disheveled
Emerging from dens and mountain clefts

18. Sweeping like locusts driven on by the wind
Passing through on a day of dust clouds

19. With grim destiny driving them, grown mute
Blood flows from them instead of saliva

20. Reminding them of Dhi Qar's onslaught
And the day of snarling dogs.

21. Every knight of Quraysh is over them
Shouting, stabbing with each sweep and thrust

22. While their land is stripped bare of pastures
And their sky is in the shadow of vultures.

23. For the foe, I must have a day
When I will serve the poisoned draught.

24. I set over their throngs my cauldrons
And mix their blood into my drink.

25. I drive my spears into their hearts
And I knock down their homes into rubble.

26. If I perish, it was fated as such
If I prevail, my striving has paid off.
