1. God willed that enemies would harm you
And that survival would be an exception to decay

8. So say to the enemies: Taste disgrace, hot and bitter
And bite the hands of shortcoming in rage

9. Wake from the sleep of folly and seek
Reins toward what you hate, and guideposts

10. You thought royal might was humbled
And the steeds of glory ran wild

11. Today it has a herder whose steeds
Made the path smooth and paved

12. When enemies covet it he defends it
Letting it graze safely on the heights

13. By his hand the pillars of faith stand firm
He stops rebels and makes them sit

14. Be calm as you look on the still sea
Until you see it surge with white-capped waves

15. Did you think the sword fulfilled its purpose
And no vengeance remained in time for it to be sheathed?

16. I guarantee that if a bared blade remains
From the days, it will bare itself again

17. Should not the bandit cower unless opposed?
Should not the honey-hunter beware unless threatened?

18. Let the nights and heights rejoice that they
Are the cradle where glory was born anew

19. When fear took wing in hearts
The birds of kingship took fright and fluttered

20. Hopes became scattered dust
Seeking your blessings, water and pasture

21. If life could garb you now in a magic amulet
It would, for the day has turned the charm

22. With what means or powers
Do you now build on sand?

23. A building where glory established its pillars
And secured its base beneath the heights

24. As always, when it wounds you
The call to prayer distracts you from joy's music

25. And your ardour cools like that of pilgrims
Whose zeal is dampened by the swords' blows

26. As in the days of Hanwi and Darzin
When the piercing blades flashed

27. I could go on about their white blades that would shine
If their lightning did not blind the beholder

28. And their rains are hidden by the downpour
Of stabbing and blows that fell continuously

29. You were paralyzed by them like game before the hunter
Those who fled were disgraced and those who led astray

30. They left you nothing but empty gutted bodies
Carcasses tossing spears and hands

31. Leave the morsels of the sublime to the guided one
And clear a rugged road where none trod

32. For the tallest of you, when the swords are unsheathed
Are pegs that cannot be removed

33. I warned you against one heedless of consequence
Straying, lost in the lands of the wicked

34. An ignorant beast mad with blood
As if driving his victims on unceasingly

35. His roar parts the two hosts
Like lightning rending the clouds with thunder

36. None speaks foolish words except the mute
With the like of these no rain softened the rocks

37. The hopeful never found your horizon dark
Nor did the arm ofdew freeze in your clinched fist

38. The enemies heard only the speechless
And the envious saw only the blind

39. While you live, loss does not visit us
Nor blessing diminish with less resolve

40. You remain as your enduring words remain
For when enduring words endure, they surpass endurance

41. The hoped-for is never far that you will not reach it
And if today it eludes, tomorrow you will grasp it

42. You always weary of life
Else men would be immortal
