1. The eve of time is polished bright,
And lisping jest is glibly dight.
١. إِنَّ غَربَ الدَهرِ مَصقولُ
وَغِرارَ الجَدِّ مَسلولُ
2. Morn's skirt the horizon quitting,
Night's zone from waist is slipping quite.
٢. وَرِداءَ الفَجرِ مُنسَحِبٌ
وَنِطاقَ اللَيلِ مَسدولُ
3. The skyey welkin's hems are seaming,
Dawn's gloom with morning glow takes flight.
٣. وَحَواشي الجَوِّ ناصِلَةٌ
وَالدُجى بِالصُبحِ مَطلولُ
4. The day-shine little laughter stirs,
That comes with Festival's delight.
٤. وَثَنايا اليَومِ يُضحِكُها
مِن قُدومِ العيدِ تَقبيلُ
5. His Mihrabs witness gave that here
This Fast was undertaken right.
٥. شَهِدَت فينا مَخائِلُهُ
أَنَّ هَذا الصَومَ مَقبولُ
6. Obey the feast of joy and though
Seems thee the world gone wild its plight.
٦. فَأَطِع حُكمَ السُرورِ وَإِن
زُخرِفَت فيهِ الأَضاليلُ
7. Take thou the goblets' blamed glee for
Naught else but false and vain the Wight.
٧. وَتَعَلَّل بِالمُدامِ لَهُ
إِنَّما الدُنيا تَعاليلُ
