1. The camels were adorned with two ankle bracelets,
greeting the tents of two high-placed poles,

2. asking the quarter about a doe,
and who in Lebanon about two gazelles.

3. O my friends journeying the plain, halt awhile
between Al-Naǧd and Abṭaḥ.

4. With them the expanse of every barren land was crossed,
bodies which the touch of love wasted away.

5. And in the tents of the plain enclosure
which for the magic turns two spindle whorls

6. relating the tale of her glances’ pasturelands
and claiming the tenderness of the black doe,

7. No coward in the belly of a valley
a terrified mother of two little fawns,

8. drinking in his coolness and repairing
to two daybreaks, shining,

9. Like the shimmer of water when it shows
the fine rim of an eye on the day it appears,

10. When the two sand grouse alight there
and after being downcast, wander two by two,

11. And after weakness come to the tribe,
summon her for the two of them

12. And convey regards from me
gently and say to her with subtlety,

13. “In the basin you left behind, anguished,
a heart holding to two hands –

14. Loyal friend of passion, intimate companion of dreams
who contends against death with these two...”
