1. Our forefathers have spoken words of wisdom before us
Which my mind and conscience still preserve

2. "Do not oppress when you have power"
For oppression will recoil upon the oppressor

3. While you sleep, the oppressed remains awake
Invoking curses of ruin and abandonment on you

4. So I will invoke curses on you in the darkness of night
In my prostrations and in my intimacy and openly

5. Drink then the cups of oppression until you perish
For the oppression of mankind was never a human glory

6. Tomorrow we will all leave this house
And inevitably we will leave this fleeting world

7. Soon there will be judgement between us
For oppression demolishes the foundation of every right

8. You and I will stand before The Almighty
On the day when the two scales are weighed

9. You and I and those who commanded you evil
We will all stand before The Judge as adversaries

10. And beware the prayer of the oppressed, he lifts it
Above the clouds to a God who does not forget me

11. And my Lord has promised that He will answer it
Even if after some time, and this saying illuminates me

12. So beware of oppressing, lest there come upon you a catastrophe
Or it befall you soon, indeed He is the Ordainer
