1. I have come with my needs to the abode of Generosity
And I have come complaining to my Lord of my sorrows

2. I complain of worries that have come to follow me like a shadow
He made me drink from the cup of bitterness

3. I stayed up at night while tears burned my soul with sadness
So relieve my suffering now, my Lord

4. The worries of my worldly life have come to befriend me
And so too my sighs accompany me each day

5. I lived lost in the wilderness of my disobedience to You for so long
Save my soul, my God, from going astray

6. If my worries increase, Your forgiveness comprehends me
If my worries increase, my supplications to You grow sweeter

7. Who do I have but You, when worries keep me up at night?
Who but You now can heal my wounds?

8. Who do I have but You, God of the universe, to save me
From the injustice of my soul, from wandering far away?

9. Who do I have but You, oh my Lord and my support
After the dearest of loved ones have departed?

10. She left, and with her left happiness and joy abandoned me
With her passing I lost the most noble of friendships

11. She was the secret-keeper of my soul, always and forever
Never did I share my stories with any but her

12. She would always pray to God that He marry me
To the most beautiful princess of all princesses

13. She would be delighted with my poetry when she heard it
And now all my verses weep for her

14. One day her spirit came to me after she had passed
To tell me her spirit had found sweet tranquility

15. She said, "I love you as big as the universe, my son
Oh joy of my heart in our pleasant conversations"

16. How I wished for an unending night's sleep
As long as her spirit came to me in my dreams

17. She stood to pray the dawn prayer and then departed
With ablution - beautiful is such an ending!

18. The people of purity, God loves their actions
And God mentions them in some of His verses

19. They washed her and her face was smiling
In this is what great blessings pour forth!

20. The procession hurried as if rejoicing for her
"Here, bring me to my longing!" it proclaimed

21. My world was like a prison, death came and freed me
And so I raced to the abode of Generosity

22. My world is worries and sorrows, all gloom
I have left it for the home of happiness

23. How different is the company of Truth, my son
From the company of creation, with its hostilities!

24. Those who live in the sight of their Creator do not die
While so many live yet are like the dead

25. You spoke truly, mother... I recognize that
But losing you - the greatest of calamities!

26. My heart's wounds gush, oh mother, with blood
Since losing you, tranquility has abandoned me

27. You were always the delight of my eyes
With your death, my joys died, oh mother!

28. When I tried to elegize you in verse
My tears flowed forth and my expressions failed me

29. If my tears became blood, I would pour it out
I would fill the oceans with my weeping!

30. What can I say...my poetry does not obey me
"Oh, would that I had died!" - I cannot compose elegies

31. I seek refuge in God from meeting Him while objecting
My eyes may tear, O most beloved one

32. And my heart may grieve but we always say:
"We are content, O Lord of the heavens!"

33. If we sought tunnels in the earth for ourselves
Or built upwards to the highest peaks

34. Can we do anything but submit to the decree?
So we may be rewarded in abundance?

35. Be patient, my son, for God will compensate
Everything, and He is the Lord of creation

36. Do not grieve, for sorrows do not benefit me
And be patient - in patience is the lessening of afflictions

37. God decreed, and His decrees come to pass
Where is the escape? And my Lord's command comes to be

38. This is a path for us all to tread
We will all die, sons of the deceased

39. I hope you will pray for me in a way that benefits me
In the darkness of night, at the time of answered prayers

40. While you live out your appointed term
Visit me often, do not cut off your visitations

41. Give charity on behalf of my soul from what
Your hands once possessed - in that is my delight

42. Uphold ties on my behalf to relatives estranged
And keep safe my daughters with your friendship

43. Treat our neighbors today with kindness
And be good to my friends

44. Seek the affection of your father, my son
And ask your God to lighten his suffering

45. Make me a promise to do as I hope, my son
And know for certain that in that is my pleasure

46. Mother, be reassured - I have made this oath
Even if only a few hours remained of my life

47. I send you greetings every sunrise and sunset
And with the setting sun, I send you my regards

48. I pray my Lord grants you beautiful patience
Or hastens, my Lord, our reunion

49. O Lord, make her home among the Gardens of Eternity
At the highest stations, among the Prophets

50. My longing to meet You has been so long, my hope
Bestow upon me, my God, the greatest rewards

51. And clothe me, my God, in the Raiment of Concealment
For Your concealment is what I desire most

52. God called me when He willed to take me
So the beautiful call fell upon my hearing

53. "Enter My Paradise today, well-pleased!"
"And enter My Garden today, by My pleasure!"

54. My Lord said "Return!" - how sweet are His words
Falling gently upon my heart...this is my hope fulfilled

55. I have no anger, my Lord, in what You decree
For You are The Most Generous, forgiving my mistakes

56. Glory to my Lord who has honored me with Paradise
My Lord has fulfilled all my needs

57. I have come to You hastily, my Lord
So unveil for me the veil upon Your Holiness

58. My longing to meet You has been so long, my hope
Bestow upon me, my God, the greatest rewards

59. And make the Raiment of Concealment cover me, my God
For Your concealment is what I desire most

60. God called me when He willed to take me
So I heard plainly the beautiful call

61. "Enter My servants today, well-pleased!"
"And enter My Garden today, by My pleasure!"

62. My Lord said "Return!" Oh how sweet are His words
Falling gently upon my heart...this is my hope fulfilled

63. I have no anger, my Lord, in what You decree
For You are The Most Generous, forgiving my mistakes

64. In the Gardens of Eternity there is no fear or grief
Only joy accompanies me always

65. In the Gardens of Eternity there is no nonsense or exhaustion
Only greetings...such excellent words!

66. I hear my Lord's greeting each dawn and dusk
As well as the angels' voices with sweet refrains

67. The birds around me coo above the trellises
Singing, singing beautiful melodies

68. From every fruit we choose, my son
And the meat of birds, and all other delights

69. As for drink, it is a wine that does not intoxicate us
From listening and from sweet conversation

70. A drink that delights the one who drinks it
For in its drinking is all joy

71. Pearls rain down around me, my son
As they hold cups and goblets

72. A cup of water...a cup of milk
A cup of honey - the sweetest tastes!

73. With the Beloved, the Messenger of God, my son
My hours pass in bliss, and in praising God

74. I looked upon the Face of God, my son
With that, my ultimate joy was attained

75. If you knew the honor I have attained
You would strive, my love, in acts of worship

76. The maidens stroll through the Gardens, my son
In the finest garb, with the loveliest smiles

77. How I wished to gift you one, my son
So strive diligently to gain such fortunes!

78. Never did an eye behold the likes of their beauty
Truly, the pinnacle of radiance is in their beauty!

79. Arise, present the bride-price to The Merciful, my son
With excellent remembrance and reciting His verses

80. And with night prayers done with excellence
And make your life constant in obedience
