اِمْدَحِpraise الكَأْسَthe cup ومَنْand whoever أَعْمَلَهاput it to use
اِمْدَحِ الكَأْسَ ومَنْ أَعْمَلَها
واهْجُand revile قَوْماًa people قَتَلُوناkilled us بالعَطَشْwith thirst
واهْجُ قَوْماً قَتَلُونا بالعَطَشْ
Praise the cup and whoever puts it to use.
Praise the cup and the one who made it
And revile a people who killed us with thirst.
Curse a people who killed us with thirst
إِنّماnothing but الكَأْسُthe cup رَبِيعٌspring باكِرٌearly
إِنّما الكَأْسُ رَبِيعٌ باكِرٌ
فَإذاso when ماemphatic particle الكَأْسُthe cup غَابَتْwas absent لَمْdid not نَعِشْwe live
فَإذا ما الكَأْسُ غَابَتْ لَمْ نَعِشْ
The cup is but an early spring.
The cup is only an early spring
So whenever the cup is absent, we do not live.
If the cup is gone, we will not live
