No man has power against the hand of treacherous Time,

Nor has he the endurance to withstand the world's harshness.

Blessed are the loved ones of people whom

Death struck before they fell in love; fortunate indeed were they.

And by their right—it is indeed a right I hold dear—

I shall surely exhaust my tears for them, just as they came to an end.

O Time, you shall indeed be made to drink from their cup,

And reach that pool which they reached.

Created beings pass away, and the days follow them.

We all perish, and the One, the Self-Sufficient, remains.
