My two friends, arise and soothe me with wine,
My two friends, give me copious wine
Well aged, from what Noah chose.
Well-aged, chosen by Noah

وما الغُبْنُ إلاَّ أَنْ يُقَالَ صَحيحُ
For life is nothing but attaining a spell of drunkenness,
For life is naught but to gain inebriation
And loss is nothing but being called sober.
And loss is naught but to be called sober

وإِنْ لامَ فيهِ عاذِلٌ ونَصِيحُ
I shall run unbridled in my love of idleness and youth,
I will persist in loving idleness and youth
Even if a censurer and a well-wisher reproach me for it.
Though blamers and advisers chide me
