حَبِيبيmy beloved مُقيمٌpersisting علىin نائِهِhis estrangement
وقَلْبيand my heart مُقيمٌpersisting علىin رائِهِits resolve
My beloved persists in his estrangement,
My beloved remains intent on blaming me,
and my heart persists in its resolve.
While my heart remains intent on adoring him.
حَنَانَيْكَyour mercy, please ياO أَمَليmy hope دَعوةًa plea
لِمَنْfor one who صارَhas become رَحْمَةَan object of pity أعدائِهِhis enemies
Have mercy, O my hope—a plea
Your tenderness, my hope, is an invitation
for one who has become an object of his enemies’ pity.
To one who has made mercy upon his enemies.
سَأصْبِرُI shall endure عَنْكَwithout you وأَعصيand defy الهَوَىpassion
إذاwhen صَبَرَendures الحوتُthe fish عنwithout مائِهِits water
I shall endure without you and defy passion
I will be patient without you and resist desire's call
when the fish can endure without its water.
If the whale can be patient without the water it yearns for.
