بأبيmay my father be your ransom نَبَذْتُكَI cast you away بالعَراءِonto the open ground المُقْفِرِdesolate
وسَتَرْتُand I covered وَجْهَكَyour face بالتُّرابِwith the earth الأَعْفَرِpale reddish
May my father be your ransom! I cast you onto the desolate open ground.
By my father I abandoned you in the barren wilderness
And I covered your face with pale reddish earth.
And covered your face with the blond dust
بأبيmay my father be your ransom بَذَلْتُكَI surrendered you بعدَafter صَوْنٍsafekeeping للبِلَىto decay
ورَجعتُand I returned عنكَfrom you صَبَرْتُI endured patiently أَمْor لَمْdid not أَصْبِرِI endure
May my father be your ransom! After safeguarding you, I surrendered you to decay.
By my father I sacrificed you after guarding you from fading away
And I returned from you, whether I endured patiently or not.
I turned away from you, was I patient or not?
لوif كُنْتُI were أَقْدِرُI am able أَنْto أَرَىI see أَثَرَthe trace of البِلَىdecay
لَتَركتُI would have left وجهكَyour face ضَاحِياًexposed لَمْnot يُقْبَرِbe buried
If I could bear to see the trace of decay,
If only I could see the traces of fading away
I would have left your face exposed, unburied.
I would have left your face smiling, unburied
