دَعُواlet مُقْلَتيmy eye تَبْكيweep لِفقْدِfor the loss of حَبيبهاits beloved
دَعُوا مُقْلَتي تَبْكي لِفقْدِ حَبيبها
لِيُطْفِىءَso that it may quench بَرْدُthe coolness of الدَّمْعِthe tears حَرَّthe heat of لَهِيبِهاits flame
لِيُطْفِىءَ بَرْدُ الدَّمْعِ حَرَّ لَهِيبِها
Let my eye weep for the loss of its beloved,
Let my tears flow to mourn the loss of my beloved
So the coolness of tears may quench the heat of its flame,
So the chill of weeping may quench the burning flames within me
بِمَنْfor one whom لَوْif رَأَتْهُthey saw him القاطِعاتُthe women who cut أكُفَّهاtheir hands
بِمَنْ لَوْ رَأَتْهُ القاطِعاتُ أكُفَّها
لمَاwould not have رَضِيَتْbeen content إِلاَّexcept بقَطْعِwith cutting قُلُوبِهاtheir hearts
لمَا رَضِيَتْ إِلاَّ بقَطْعِ قُلُوبِها
For one at whose sight the women who cut their hands
For he who, were the severers to see him, would make them lower their swords
Would have been content only with cutting their hearts.
And be content only when they had cut out their own hearts
