أَناI أُوقيI shield مِنَfrom المكارِهِthe misfortunes مَنْthe one whom دَمْFirst part of دمعي: my tears
أَنا أُوقي مِنَ المكارِهِ مَنْ دَمْ
عِيCompletion of دمعي: my tears عليهِfor him أَرَقُّmore delicate مِنْthan خَدَّيْهِhis two cheeks
عِي عليهِ أَرَقُّ مِنْ خَدَّيْهِ
I shield from misfortunes the one for whom my tears
I suffer on behalf of one whose blood
are more delicate than his cheeks.
Keeps me awake more than my own eyelids
