وَحَياةِBy the life of ظَبْيٍa gazelle لَمْdid not أَصُمْI abstain عنfrom ذِكْرِهِmentioning him
وَحَياةِ ظَبْيٍ لَمْ أَصُمْ عن ذِكْرِهِ
إِلاّexcept that عَضَضْتُI bit تَنْدُّماًin remorse إِبْهاميmy thumb
إِلاّ عَضَضْتُ تَنْدُّماً إِبْهامي
By the life of a gazelle, I never abstained from mentioning him
A deer's life I did not forget to mention
without biting my thumb in remorse.
Except I felt regret for my vagueness
لأُشَافِهَنَّI shall surely commit مِنَamong الذُّنُوبِsins عَظَائماًgrave ones
لأُشَافِهَنَّ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ عَظَائماً
يَنْقَدُّsplits apart عنهاfrom them جِلْدُthe skin كُلِّevery صِيامِfast
يَنْقَدُّ عنها جِلْدُ كُلِّ صِيامِ
I shall surely commit grievous sins
That I may relate outrageous sins
that tear apart the skin of every fast.
That would invalidate every fast
