And a guileless youth who gives two rulings: on wine,

an unjust one, and on love, an impossible one.

His rump is a sand dune's; his form a slender bough's, endowed

with suppleness; and his neck is a gazelle's.

His eyes have done to the lovesick lover what

the bounty of your hands does to wealth.

    قِ فما الشّامِخاتُ مِثْلَ الرِّمالِ

    You have not been compared with the rest of humankind;

for towering peaks are not like the sands.

And if you wish to see death in the form

    of a lion, wearing a lion's two mane-locks,

then meet him—except that his two mane-locks are only

a white, keen sword and a tall, brown spear.

You will meet a lion whose lips have been drawn back,

so he appears smiling at the grim-faced attackers.
