زَعَمْتُمْyou claimed بأنِّيthat I قَدْalready سَلَوْتُI ceased longing for وِصَالكُمْunion with you
زَعَمْتُمْ بأنِّي قَدْ سَلَوْتُ وِصَالكُمْ
فَلِمْthen why ذَرَفَتْshed tears عَينيmy eye ولِمْand why شَابَturned gray مَفْرِقِيthe parting of my hair
فَلِمْ ذَرَفَتْ عَيني ولِمْ شَابَ مَفْرِقِي
You claimed that I had forgotten the joy of union with you—
You claimed that I had ceased longing for union with you;
Then why have my eyes shed tears, and why has the parting of my hair turned gray?
Then why has my eye shed tears, and why has the parting of my hair turned gray?
