And one filled with grief
Filled with sorrow
grapples with the surge of sleeplessness.
He treats the insomnia of sleeplessness
تكادُalmost غُروبُstreams of tears مُقْلَتِهِhis eye
تَعُمُّengulf الأَرْضَthe earth بالغَرَقِin a flood
The tears of his eye almost
His closing eyelids
engulf the earth in a flood.
Nearly flood the earth with tears
ويَسْتَوْليand takes hold تَزَفُّرُهُhis sighing
علىof الجُلاَّسِthose seated بالحُرَقِwith burning anguish
And his sighing overwhelms
And his sighing
those seated with burning anguish.
Takes over the gathering with burning
كأنَّas though فُؤَادَهُhis heart قَلِقاًrestless
لِسَانُthe tongue الحَيّةِthe snake الفَرِقِfrightened
It is as though his restless heart
It's as if his anxious heart
were the tongue of a frightened snake,
Is the slithering snake's flickering tongue
وَأَضْلُعَهand his ribs لِقَضْقَضةٍbecause of clattering

and his ribs, as they clatter,
And his ribs with the rattling
were money changers counting silver coins.
Are the shuffling pages of his thoughts
