O Bakr, what have the measures of wine done to you?

O house, what have the days done to you?

In the house there is still a remnant we can bid for,

While in you there is no remnant to be bid for.

Time has raged against the dwellings, against their will,

And Time has fury against you, too.

Time has set your slumber to work in its bureau,

So the pens have become free for your inkwell.
