كيفَhow الدُّعاءُthe prayer علىagainst مَنْone who جارَacted unjustly أَوْor ظَلَماdid wrong
كيفَ الدُّعاءُ على مَنْ جارَ أَوْ ظَلَما
ومالِكيand my master ظالمٌunjust فيin كُلِّall ماthat which حَكَماhe judged
ومالِكي ظالمٌ في كُلِّ ما حَكَما
How can I pray against one who has been unjust or done wrong,
How can I invoke curses on one who has wronged me,
When my master is unjust in every judgment he makes?
When my Master has wronged me in all His judgments?
لاmay not آخذَhold accountable اللّهُGod مَنْthe one whom أهوىI love بِجَفْوَتِهِfor his turning away
لا آخذَ اللّهُ مَنْ أهوى بِجَفْوَتِهِ
عَنِّيfrom me ولاand may not اقْتَصَّexact retribution ليfor me منهُfrom him ولاand may not ظَلماdo wrong
عَنِّي ولا اقْتَصَّ لي منهُ ولا ظَلما
May God not hold the one I love accountable for his turning away
God does not punish those I hate for their enmity,
From me, nor exact retribution from him for me, nor wrong him.
Nor exact revenge on my behalf, nor do me wrong.
