مَنْwhoever نامَslept لَمْdid not يَدْرِknow طالَwas long اللّيلُthe night أَمْor قَصُراwas short
مَنْ نامَ لَمْ يَدْرِ طالَ اللّيلُ أَمْ قَصُرا
لاnot يعرفُknows اللّيلَthe night إلاَّexcept عاشِقٌa lover سَهراstayed awake
لا يعرفُ اللّيلَ إلاَّ عاشِقٌ سَهرا
Whoever sleeps does not know whether the night is long or short.
The one who slept does not know if the night was long or short
Only a lover who stays awake knows the night.
None knows the night except a lover kept awake
