وصِرْتُand I became بلاwithout قلبٍa heart كأنىَas though I were قَلْبُهُits heart
وصِرْتُ بلا قلبٍ كأنىَ قَلْبُهُ
They turned away, so worry over them consumed my heart.
They turned away, and grief destroyed my heart over them,
And I came to have no heart, as though I were its heart.
And I became without a heart, as though it was its heart.
وزادَand it grew إلىto أنْthat كدتُI nearly أَفْنَىI perish منfrom الضَّنىwasting illness
وزادَ إلى أنْ كدتُ أَفْنَى من الضَّنى

وقال الأسى للهمِّ وَيْلَك حَسْبُه
And it grew until I nearly perished from wasting illness.
And in addition to nearly perishing from pining,
And sorrow said to worry, “Woe to you! He has had enough.”
Sorrow said to grief, “Woe to you, enough!”
ونَّفرand drove away صبحُthe dawn الشيبِgray hair ليلَthe night شَيبتيmy gray hair
ونَّفر صبحُ الشيبِ ليلَ شَيبتي
كذاthus عادتيmy habit فيat الصُّبِحdawn معْwith منthe one whom أحبهI love him
كذا عادتي في الصُّبِح معْ من أحبه
And the dawn of gray hair drove away the night of my graying.
And the dawn of old age frightened away the night of my old age,
Such is my habit at dawn with the one I love.
Thus is my habit in the dawn with those I love.
