ياثالثَO third القَمريْنthe two moons حَسْبُكenough for you أننيthat I
ياثالثَ القَمريْن حَسْبُك أنني
أصبحتُI have become ثالثa third عاذلٍa reproacher ورقيبِand a watcher
أصبحتُ ثالث عاذلٍ ورقيبِ
O third beside the two moons, it is enough for you that I
O third of the two moons, it is enough for me
have become a third beside a reproacher and a watcher.
That I have become the third of an admonisher and observer
إنif كانit was قدalready حَجَبوكthey concealed you دونَout of reach of زيارتيmy visits
إن كان قد حَجَبوك دونَ زيارتي
فامتُنthen bestow a favor بطيفٍwith a dream-vision ليسis not بالمحجوبbarred
فامتُن بطيفٍ ليس بالمحجوب
If they have kept you beyond the reach of my visits,
If they have prevented you from visiting me
then favor me with a dream-vision that is not barred.
Be content with an apparition that cannot be prevented
واللهِby God ماnot آسَىI grieve لأعْظمِfor the greatest فائتٍloss
واللهِ ما آسَى لأعْظمِ فائتٍ
إنْif كنتَyou are منfrom قِبَلِthe side of الزمانTime نصيبيmy allotted share
إنْ كنتَ من قِبَلِ الزمان نصيبي
By God, I do not grieve for even the greatest loss,
By Allah, I am not miserable for the greatest loss
if you are my share allotted by Time.
If you were destined for me since the past
ماليwhy is it that I بخِلتُI have been miserly بكمwith you كبُخلِlike the stinginess of زمانِناour age
مالي بخِلتُ بكم كبُخلِ زمانِنا
للأَفْضَلِfor al-Afdal المُحْيِيwho gives life to الوَرَىhumankind بضَريبِwith a peer
للأَفْضَلِ المُحْيِي الوَرَى بضَريبِ
Why have I refused to give you up, as our age withholds
I do not begrudge you as our time begrudges
a peer from al-Afdal, who gives life to humankind,
The best, the one who brings life to the land with his gift
وسمحتمُand you readily parted بيwith me معْdespite صحيحِgenuine مودتيmy affection
وسمحتمُ بي معْ صحيحِ مودتي
كسَماحِهlike its generosity للناسِto the people بالموهوبwith al-Mawhub
كسَماحِه للناسِ بالموهوب
while you have readily parted with me, despite my true affection,
And you were lenient with me and my true affection
as it bestows al-Mawhub upon the people?
Like his leniency to people with his gifts
