May God grant Masʿud no happiness, for his craft
No one blessed by God should alter what He made,
is like his face: all ugliness is distilled from it.
Like his face—all ugliness in it abbreviated.

He shaves a head only once, and that one shave
One only shaves his head a single time, and that
spares its owner a return visit for the whole of his life.
Suffices him, returning never for life's duration.

For the gentlest touch of his fingertips
For a hand's gentle touch is far smoother than
is flaying—and after flaying, hair takes time to grow.
A scrape—after a scrape, hair grows back again.

So, were he to intend in his innermost thoughts to shave a head,
So if one's mind intends to shave what's in his head
its brain, sensing this, would almost spill out.
He's apt by his own brains to find himself misled.
