انظرْlook إلىat المجلسthe hall الأعلىthe upper وماand what جَمَعتhas gathered
انظرْ إلى المجلس الأعلى وما جَمَعت
فيهwithin it سعادةُgood fortune مولاناour lord منamong المُلَحthe delights
فيه سعادةُ مولانا من المُلَح
Look at the upper hall and what has been gathered
Behold the lofty council and what
within it by our lord's good fortune—such delights.
Our Master's bliss has gathered there -
جاءتْcame بهwith it حِكَمwisdom الصُّنّاعِthe craftsmen معجزةَa marvel of الthe
جاءتْ به حِكَم الصُّنّاعِ معجزةَ ال
دنياworld فأصبحَand so it became فيهاin it خيرthe finest مُقتَرَحcreation
دنيا فأصبحَ فيها خير مُقتَرَح
The craftsmen's wisdom brought it forth, a marvel of the
The artisans' wisdom brought it forth, a miracle
world, where it became the finest creation.
That made it the best thing on earth.
لهit has بياضٌwhiteness يغُضّlowers الطَّرْفَthe gaze لامعُهits gleam
له بياضٌ يغُضّ الطَّرْفَ لامعُه
فالعينُso the eye تَلْحَظbeholds منهfrom it الْحُسنَthe beauty فيin المَلَحِthe whitish coloring
فالعينُ تَلْحَظ منه الْحُسنَ في المَلَحِ
Its whiteness has a gleam that lowers the gaze;
It has a brilliance that makes eyes lower
thus the eye beholds its beauty in that pale hue.
When they perceive its beauty and salt.
كأنهas though it were خَلَلَamid الأشجارِthe trees لؤلؤةٌa pearl
كأنه خَلَلَ الأشجارِ لؤلؤةٌ
نَظْمُthe array of الزُّمردِthe emeralds فيهاin it غيرnot منفسحِwidely spaced
نَظْمُ الزُّمردِ فيها غير منفسحِ
It is like a pearl amid the trees,
As if it were a pearl amidst the trees -
the emerald array there leaving no gaps.
The order of emerald is seamless in it.
كأنماas though النهرُthe river فيهin it سيفُthe sword of مرتِعشٍa trembling man
كأنما النهرُ فيه سيفُ مرتِعشٍ
يَرومهhe seeks it بينbetween مقبوضٍgrasped ومُطَّرَحand cast aside
يَرومه بين مقبوضٍ ومُطَّرَح
The river there seems a trembling man's sword,
As if the river in it were a flickering sword
which he seeks, now grasped, now cast aside.
Thrusting amid grasping and casting away.
يُلقىis poured إلىinto البركةthe pool الغَنّاءthe luxuriant فائضَهits overflow
يُلقى إلى البركة الغَنّاء فائضَه
ماءًwater يشفُّis translucent شَفيفَthe translucence of الخمرwine فيin القَدحthe cup
ماءً يشفُّ شَفيفَ الخمر في القَدح
Its overflow is poured into the luxuriant pool:
It pours its excess onto the singing pool -
water translucent as wine in the cup.
Water that rivals wine in the cup.
حَكَتْit resembled سماءًa sky ولونُand the color of الزَّهرِthe flowers يَشملُهاenfolds it
حَكَتْ سماءً ولونُ الزَّهرِ يَشملُها
قوسُthe bow of الغَمامthe clouds الذيwhich يُنْمَىis ascribed إلىto قُزَحQuzah
قوسُ الغَمام الذي يُنْمَى إلى قُزَح
It resembled a sky; the flowers' hue enfolding it
It depicts a sky with the hue of flowers covering it -
was the bow of the clouds ascribed to Quzah,
The rainbow's arc nurtured toward Capricorn.
لاnot سِيَّماthe like of كلماwhenever هبَّblew النسيمُthe breeze بهاacross it
لا سِيَّما كلما هبَّ النسيمُ بها
وغَنَّتِand sang الطيرُthe birds فيin الآصالِthe late afternoons والصُّبُحand the mornings
وغَنَّتِ الطيرُ في الآصالِ والصُّبُح
especially whenever the breeze blew across it
Especially whenever the breeze stirs it
and the birds sang in the late afternoons and mornings.
And birds sing in the myrtle and dawn,
رقَّتgrew delicate فراقتْand so became lovely وفاضتand overflowed بالزُّلالwith limpid water كماjust as
رقَّت فراقتْ وفاضت بالزُّلال كما
فاضتْoverflowed يدُthe hand of الملكِthe king المنصورِal-Mansur بالمِنَحwith gifts
فاضتْ يدُ الملكِ المنصورِ بالمِنَح
It grew delicate and lovely, and overflowed with limpid water, just as
It softens, flows, and overflows with coolness
the hand of King al-Mansur overflowed with gifts.
As the hand of the victorious king overflows with gifts.
اللهGod يُبْقيهmay He preserve him للدنياfor the world فدولتُهfor his reign
الله يُبْقيه للدنيا فدولتُه
للجودfor generosity والعزand glory والإنصافand fairness والفَرحand joy
للجود والعز والإنصاف والفَرح
May God preserve him for the world, for his reign
May God keep it for the world, so its rule
is for generosity, glory, fairness, and joy.
Endures in munificence, honor, equity, and joy.
