Sol 6.1

  1. شهرُ الصيام بك المُهَنَّا

    إذ كان يُشبِه منك فَنّا

    The fasting month is congratulated on having you,

    for it resembles one aspect of you.

  2. ما سار حَولا كاملا

    إلا ليسرقَ منك معنى

    It journeyed a full year

    only to steal a quality from you,

  3. وينالَ منك كما ننا

    لُ ويستفيدَ كما استفدنا

    and gain from you as we

    gain, and benefit as we have benefited.

  4. فرأَى مَحلَّك من محل

    هِلاله أعلا وأَسْنَى

    It found your station, compared with that

    of its crescent, loftier and more radiant.

  5. بَهرتْ مَحاسُنك الورى

    فأعادتِ الفُصحاءَ لُكنا

    Your virtues dazzled humankind,

    and left the eloquent tongue-tied.

  6. فإذا مَدحْناك احتقر

    نا ما نقول وإِن أَجَدْنا

    So whenever we praise you, we scorn

    what we say, however well we speak.

  7. والفضلُ أجمعُ بعضُ وص

    فِك وهْو غايةُ ما وَجَدْنا

    And all excellence is but a partial description

    of you, yet it is the utmost we have found.

  8. إن الذي صَدَح الحما

    مُ به ثناؤُك حين غَنَّى

    Indeed, what the doves sang aloud

    was praise of you when they sang.

  9. وأظنُّ ذلك مُوجِبا

    طَرَبَ القضيبِ إذا تَثَنَّى

    And I think this is what causes

    the branch's rapture when it sways.

  10. فتَهَنَّ شهرَك واسْتزِدْ

    بقدومه سعدا ويُمْنا

    So enjoy your month, and seek still more

    happiness and blessing through its coming.

  11. فمكانُه من علمِهِ

    كمكانك المحروسِ مِنّا

    For its standing in its knowledge [wording unclear]

    is like your safeguarded standing among us.
