God be praised for the day the Nile bestowed!

Its beauty is in the whole and in each detail.

في منظرٍ مشرقٍ على خضْرٍ

كأنه في الظلام قِنْديل

كأنه في الظلام قِنْديل

In a radiant scene above green fields,

as though it were a lantern in the dark.

تبدى لنا جانبا جزيرته

تبدى لنا جانبا جزيرته

أشياءَ فيها للعين تأميل

أشياءَ فيها للعين تأميل

The two sides of its island appeared to us—

sights for the eye to linger over.

كأنما البحرُ عند مفتَرق ال

ماءَيْنِ من رأسِها سَراويل

ماءَيْنِ من رأسِها سَراويل

As though the river, at the parting of the

two streams from the island's tip, were trousers.

موجُ وتَكُّ الخليج تكميل

Their embroidery is the bridge; their creases, the

waves; and the canal, their drawstring, completes them.
