انْظُرْ إلى الخالِ على خَدِّها

انْظُرْ إلى الخالِ على خَدِّها

ولونِه الأسودِ في الحُمْرَهْ

Look at the mole upon her cheek

Behold the mole on her cheek,

and its black hue amid the redness:

Black in its redness,

كطابَعٍ من عنبرٍ حَطَّهُ

كطابَعٍ من عنبرٍ حَطَّهُ

مُبَخِّرَ في وَسَط الجَمْرَه

مُبَخِّرَ في وَسَط الجَمْرَه

like a seal of ambergris set down

Like an ambergris stamp

by one burning incense in the ember's heart;

Placed mid embers by a censer,

أو قطعةٍ من نَثرٍ مسكٍ عَلَتْ

أو قطعةٍ من نَثرٍ مسكٍ عَلَتْ

طافيةً في رائقِ الخَمره

طافيةً في رائقِ الخَمره

or a piece of scattered musk that has risen,

Or a piece of musk

floating in the clear wine.

Floating in pure wine.
