تكاد من طَرْفِه الأبصارُ تَخْتطفُهْ
A child in whom beauty has shown inventive artistry.
A child in whom beauty innovated perfection
At his glance, eyes almost snatch him away.
Eyes could barely resist snatching glances of him

يخطو فيَثْنيه من لينِ الصِّبا هَيَفُه
A curving dune in which a branch has grown, with a moon above it.
A sapling grew, upon it a moon-like branch
He steps, and his slenderness bends him with the suppleness of youth.
Stalks sway in the soft morning breeze

في عَطْفِه ورثى لي رَدَّه صَلَفُه
When my abasement pleads before his pride
When he intercedes, pride itself humbles before his nobility
For his compassion, and he pities me, his arrogance holds him back.
In his charm, his aloofness has bequeathed me his rejection
