للهِto God (expressing admiration) حمامa bathhouse كروضٍlike a garden أنيقْlovely
للهِ حمام كروضٍ أنيقْ
رافقنيaccompanied me فيهin it رقيقٌgentle رفيقْa companion
رافقني فيه رقيقٌ رفيقْ
God be praised for a bathhouse like a lovely garden!
God has a dove-like bath
A gentle companion accompanied me there.
In which a gentle, dear friend accompanied me
صَفاbecame pleasant ليَfor me العيشُlife بهاin it مثلماjust as
صَفا ليَ العيشُ بها مثلما
صفاwas pure لقلبيfor my heart ودُّaffection ذاكthat الصَّديقْthe friend
صفا لقلبي ودُّ ذاك الصَّديقْ
Life within was sweet to me, just as
Life with it was as clear as
That friend's love was pure in my heart.
My heart's affection for that friend
تَنَاسبتْwas harmonious شخصاin outward form وخبْراand in inner quality فماso no
تَنَاسبتْ شخصا وخبْرا فما
للذمّfor blame والعيبand fault إليهاto it طريقa path
للذمّ والعيب إليها طريق
Its form and substance were in harmony, so
Her character and news coincided, so that
Blame and fault had no path to it.
No way for blame and fault
أَحَرَّهاheated it الوقّادthe stoker حتىuntil غداhe became
أَحَرَّها الوقّاد حتى غدا
منfor أجلهاits sake للروحto the soul مثلlike الشقيقthe brother
من أجلها للروح مثل الشقيق
The stoker heated it until he became
He stoked its fire until it became
Because of it, like a brother to the soul.
Like a soul sister to the spirit
فالماءُfor the water فيهاin it كحياةٍlike life جَرتْflowed
فالماءُ فيها كحياةٍ جَرتْ
بهاthrough it العَوافِيhealth والصِّبَاand youth فيin العروقthe veins
بها العَوافِي والصِّبَا في العروق
For the water within is like life, flowing
The water in it flows like a life
With health and youth through the veins,
In it the veins and youths flow
تحتbeneath بخارٍsteam عَطِرٍfragrant مثلماjust as
تحت بخارٍ عَطِرٍ مثلما
شُبْتَyou mixed بماءِwith water الوردroses مِسْكاmusk فَتيقopened to release its fragrance
شُبْتَ بماءِ الورد مِسْكا فَتيق
Beneath fragrant steam, as though
Under fragrant steam as if
You had mixed unsealed musk with rosewater.
You perfumed musk with rosewater, gentle
راقتْwas clear حياضاpools فأقلُّso the tiniest القَذىspeck of dirt
راقتْ حياضا فأقلُّ القَذى
فيهاin it كشمسٍlike the sun تحتbeneath غيمٍa cloud رقيقthin
فيها كشمسٍ تحت غيمٍ رقيق
Its pools were clear, so the tiniest mote
It has polished ponds, so that the least
In them was like the sun beneath a thin cloud.
Mote in it is like a sun under thin clouds
خُصَّتwas specially endowed بألوانwith colors الرخامthe marble الذيwhich
خُصَّت بألوان الرخام الذي
لهit has بهاin it كلُّevery طِرازٍpattern دقيقdelicate
له بها كلُّ طِرازٍ دقيق
It was graced with hues of marble, which
Singled out with marble colors
Displayed within it every delicate design.
Each with delicate ornament to it
فأعجبُand most wondrous الأمرِthe matter شموسٌsuns بهاin it
فأعجبُ الأمرِ شموسٌ بها
طالعةٌrising دائمةٌeverlasting فيin شروقsunrise
طالعةٌ دائمةٌ في شروق
And most wondrous of all are the suns within it,
So the wonderful thing is suns within it
Rising, in perpetual sunrise.
Rising perpetual in dawn
فالنفسso the soul منهاfrom it فيin سرورjoy كماjust as
فالنفس منها في سرور كما
سَرَّgladdened سُرورَjoy القلبthe heart شربُdrinking الرَّحيقpure wine
سَرَّ سُرورَ القلب شربُ الرَّحيق
So the soul draws joy from it, just as
The soul from it is in bliss as
Drinking pure wine brought joy to the heart.
The heart was gladdened by drinking nectar
فقدand indeed وَدِدناwe wished أنَّthat أعمارناour lives
فقد وَدِدنا أنَّ أعمارنا
فيهاin it صَبوحٌa morning draught دائمendless أوor غَبوقan evening draught
فيها صَبوحٌ دائم أو غَبوق
And indeed we wished that our lives
We found that our lifespans
Within it were an endless morning draught or an evening one.
In it are perpetual morn or eve
