لا فرقَ بينكمُ وبين فؤادي

لا فرقَ بينكمُ وبين فؤادي

في حالَتَىْ قُربِي لكمُ وبِعادي

في حالَتَىْ قُربِي لكمُ وبِعادي

There is no difference between you and my heart,

There is no difference between you and my heart

whether I am near you or far away.

In my condition, whether near or far from me

فلَقد حَبَبْتكم على عِلاّتِكم

فلَقد حَبَبْتكم على عِلاّتِكم

كمحبَّةِ الآباءِ للأَولاد

كمحبَّةِ الآباءِ للأَولاد

For I have loved you despite your faults,

For I have loved you despite your high status

as fathers love their children.

Like a father's love for his children

ونَزلتُمُ مني وَإنْ لم تُنصِفوا

ونَزلتُمُ مني وَإنْ لم تُنصِفوا

بمَنازلِ الأرواحِ في الأجساد

بمَنازلِ الأرواحِ في الأجساد

And you have dwelt within me, though you have not been fair,

And you have a special place in me even if you have not been fair

as souls dwell within bodies.

In the levels of souls in bodies

ورجوتُ أن أسلو لسوء صَنيعِكم

ورجوتُ أن أسلو لسوء صَنيعِكم

عندي فصار ذَريعةَ لودادي

عندي فصار ذَريعةَ لودادي

And I hoped to cease loving you because of your ill treatment

And I hoped to forgive your bad treatment

of me, but it became a reason for my love.

As an excuse for my affection

قد كنتُ أطمعُ بالخيال لو أنكم

قد كنتُ أطمعُ بالخيال لو أنكم

لم ترحلوا يومَ النَّوَى برُقادي

لم ترحلوا يومَ النَّوَى برُقادي

I would have hoped for your image in dreams, had you

I used to dream if only you had not

not carried off my sleep on the day of parting.

Departed on the day of farewell and my vigil

ولذكركم في مِسْمَعىَّ لَذاذةٌ

ولذكركم في مِسْمَعىَّ لَذاذةٌ

كالماء عذبا في لَهاةِ الصّادي

كالماء عذبا في لَهاةِ الصّادي

And the mention of you is a delight to my ears,

And the mention of you in my hearing is sweet

like sweet water in a thirsty person's throat.

Like fresh water to the thirsty hunter
