يا راغبا في غِنىً وكَنْزِ

وكيمياءٍ بغيرِ رَمْزِ

O you who seek wealth and treasure,

O you who seek wealth and treasure

and alchemy without a cipher,

And alchemy without symbol

وقعتَ عندَ الخبير فاسمعْ

وقعتَ عندَ الخبير فاسمعْ

نصيحتي غيرَ مستفَز

نصيحتي غيرَ مستفَز

You have come to the expert, so hear

You have come upon an expert, so listen

my counsel, without becoming agitated.

To my advice without being provoked

قناعةُ المرءِ كيمياءٌ

قناعةُ المرءِ كيمياءٌ

صَحَّتْ وكنزٌ وأيُّ كنز

صَحَّتْ وكنزٌ وأيُّ كنز

A person's contentment is alchemy

Contentment in a person is alchemy

that has proved effective, and a treasure—what a treasure!

That brings health, treasure and what treasure!

فاسعَدْ بها مكسبا وأَنفِقْ

فاسعَدْ بها مكسبا وأَنفِقْ

ما شئتَ منها بلا تَجزِّى

ما شئتَ منها بلا تَجزِّى

So rejoice in it as your gain, and spend

So be happy with it as gain and spend

whatever you wish from it, without dividing it.

From it what you wish without stinginess

فالناسُ طولَ الزمان عنها

فالناسُ طولَ الزمان عنها

لا شكَّ في غفلةٍ وعَجْز

لا شكَّ في غفلةٍ وعَجْز

For people, throughout time, with regard to it,

For people throughout time have been

are without doubt heedless and incapable.
