ولقد أَبقتِ الليالي أبا الفض

ولقد أَبقتِ الليالي أبا الفض

ل فأبقتْ في المجد فضلا كبيرا

ل فأبقتْ في المجد فضلا كبيرا

And indeed the nights have spared Abu al-Faḍl,

and so preserved great excellence in glory.

لاح فينا فأَقمرتْ ليلةُ البد

لاح فينا فأَقمرتْ ليلةُ البد

ر وأَعطَى فكان يوماً مَطيرا

ر وأَعطَى فكان يوماً مَطيرا

He shone among us, and the full moon’s night grew moonlit;

and he gave, and so became a rainy day.
