Where is the tribe's encampment, O valley?
Where is the abode of the beloved, O valley
Tell me—may evening and morning rainclouds water you.
Tell your rain-quenched sands blown by the wind

Amid the traveling women's curtained litters, a woman is hidden;
Veiled among the folds, my heart led thither
The camel-driver drove my heart along with her.
Companion to a war, fearfully slinking
مُستَصحِبٌtaking along لِلحَربِfor war خَيفانَةًa swift mare

مِثلَ عُقابِ السَرحَةِ العادي
Taking along to war a fleet mare,
Like the accustomed hawk of open country
Like the swift eagle of the spreading tree,
Dark hair and blue eyes in his head

And a brown spear with a blue point at its head,
Like the hissing viper's flickering tongue
Like the serpent's thirsting tongue.
