خَبِّر سَقاكَ الرائِحُ الغادي
Where is the tribe's dwelling, O valley?
Where is the abode of the beloved, O valley
Tell me—may evening and morning rain water you.
Tell your rain clouds drifting by
بَينَamong خُدورِcurtained chambers الظُعنِthe women in litters مَحجوبَةٌa veiled woman

حَدا بِقَلبي مَعَها الحادي
Among the women's curtained litters is a veiled woman;
Hidden among tent folds, my heart drawn to her
With his song, the camel-driver led my heart away with her.
Like the hawk accustomed to wariness
مُستَصحِبٌtaking along لِلحَربِfor war خَيفانَةًa swift, slender mare

مِثلَ عُقابِ السَرحَةِ العادي
Taking along for war a swift, slender mare,
With bluish-black hair, dangerous as
Like the swooping eagle of the spreading tree,
The flickering tongue of a hissing serpent
وَأَسمَراًand a brown-shafted spear فيat رَأسِهِits head أَزرَقٌa blue-steel point
وَأَسمَراً في رَأسِهِ أَزرَقٌ

مِثلُ لِسانِ الحَيَّةِ الصادي
And a brown-shafted spear with blue steel at its head,
Like the thirsting tongue of a serpent.
