إِذاwhen اِنتَقَمواthey take revenge أَعلَنواthey make public أَمرَهُمtheir deed
إِذا اِنتَقَموا أَعلَنوا أَمرَهُم
وَإِنand if أَنعَمواthey bestow favors أَنعَمواthey bestow favors بِاِكتِتامِin secrecy
وَإِن أَنعَموا أَنعَموا بِاِكتِتامِ
When they take revenge, they make their deed public.
When they take revenge, they proclaim it openly,
And if they bestow favors, they bestow them in secret.
But when they bestow favor, they do so discreetly.
يَقومُrise القُعودُthose seated إِذاwhen أَقبَلواthey approach
يَقومُ القُعودُ إِذا أَقبَلوا
وَتَقعُدُand makes sit هَيبَتُهُمawe of them بِالقِيامِthose standing
وَتَقعُدُ هَيبَتُهُم بِالقِيامِ
Those seated rise when they approach.
The sedentary arise when they advance,
And awe of them makes those standing sit.
And their awe makes the valiant take a seat.
