شَكَرناwe thanked الخَليفَةَthe caliph إِجرائَهُhis granting
عَلىto اِبنِson of أَبيAbi (father of) خالِدٍKhalid نُزلَهُhis provision
We thanked the caliph for granting
We thanked the Caliph for imprisoning
Ibn Abi Khalid his provision.
The son of Abi Khalid in his cell.
فَكَفَّthus he restrained أَذاهُhis harm عَنِfrom المُسلِمينَthe Muslims
وَصَيَّرَand he made فيin بَيتِهِhis house أَكلَهُhis eating
Thus he kept his harm from the Muslims
He stopped his harm upon the Muslims
and confined his eating to his own house.
And made his sustenance his home.
وَقَدand indeed كانَhe had been يَقسِمُdividing up أَشغالَهُhis tasks
فَصَيَّرَso he made فيin نَفسِهِhimself شُغلَهhis concern
He had been dividing up his tasks,
He used to divide his energies -
so he made himself his sole concern.
Now his thoughts are turned inward as well.
