Take solace—for how many precedents you have
Take solace, for you have many examples
to cool the burning ache of sorrow within you:
To cool the burning thirst of your grief:
بِمَوتِin the death of النَبِيِّthe Prophet وَقَتلِand the slaying of الوَصِيِّthe appointed successor
بِمَوتِ النَبِيِّ وَقَتلِ الوَصِيِّ
وَذَبحِand the slaughter of الحُسَينِHusayn وَسَمِّand the poisoning of الحَسَنHasan
وَذَبحِ الحُسَينِ وَسَمِّ الحَسَن
the Prophet’s death and the Legatee’s murder,
In the Prophet’s death and the slaying of the appointed successor,
Husayn’s slaughter and Hasan’s poisoning.
And the slaughter of Husayn and the poisoning of Hasan.
